Exposing 5 famous tricks in history
Everyone wants to unravel the secrets of magic tricks. And the greatest of them are beyond the comprehension of even the most attentive observers. But we have managed to lift the veil of mystery of the most mysterious and greatest tricks in the history of modern times.
Catching a bullet with your teeth
The first mention of this grandiose trick is described in the treatise “Theaters of God’s judgment” (1631) and until today it has constantly changed and reached perfection when it was implemented by the masters of illusion Penn and Tiller. During the show, they shot at each other and caught bullets in their mouths.
An important condition for the successful performance of the number is not just excellent preparation, but also the dexterity of the hands and mouth, namely the cheeks and tongue, of the performers. And the secret props are fake pellets, possibly made of wax. For this reason, they are torn immediately after departure. And in order to make them difficult to distinguish from the real ones, they are covered with a layer of lead paint. And the audience does not notice the trick, because under the sight of cameras and General attention, a person is a little lost and is not able to adequately assess the situation. The magician also distracts with his conversations.
The next stage of the focus is that one of the observers is asked to draw something on the pool. And it is clear that this “something” does not differ in complexity. At the same time, the illusionist says that the person drew it. What for? People think it’s for them to know everything. But in fact, according to the magician’s comments, the assistant behind the scenes makes the same sign on another cartridge that was shot earlier.
And here’s the key moment: Penn and tiller approach the racks located near the curtain to put on protective helmets and vests. At the same time, they turn their back to the audience for a few seconds and at this time, the assistants quietly pass them the shot bullet with the desired image. All the bullets are hidden in the mouths of illusionists.
Then it’s a small matter. Penn tells the audience how life-threatening this trick is by holding the cartridge in his cheek. After the performers aim and shoot, and, hiding behind the clouds of smoke formed, push the cartridge out of the cheek with their tongue and hold it with their teeth.
Walking on water
The peak of skill that many illusionists want to achieve is walking on water. Previously, there was only one known person who walked on the surface of the water – the Messiah Jesus.
Since then, many people have dreamed of repeating this action, but it was realized only in our time by the great magician of modern times, Steve Frein (creative pseudonym – Dynamo). And he surprised those around him by “walking” along the great Thames.
The secret of this trick is kept in the strictest confidence. But we managed to recognize her.
So, Dynamo was able to resist the laws of physics thanks to … not sinking plexiglass platform, which is invisible in the dark waters of the great Thames.
Yes, to make the number more convincing, a kayak floats behind the author of the trick, in order to show that there is no secret under the water. But it should be noted that the platform is located slightly below the water surface, and the kayak, due to the features of its structure, sinks to a depth of only 15 cm! So it just floats over the plexiglass.
Confirmation of our assumption is the water swell, which is formed only at small depths.
Release from the Chinese water torture chamber
The author of this trick is an unsurpassed master of getting out of various shackles of Harry Houdini. He performed this number back in 1912. To this day, this trick is especially revered among illusionists and their fans. And it is known in many interpretations.
This trick causes mixed feelings among the audience because the performer, for their fun, puts himself in danger: being upside down under water for at least three minutes, causes a strong flow of blood to the head. And this is fraught with, at best, fainting, at worst – bleeding in the brain.
When the assistant closes the lid, the” prisoner ” stealthily pulls the rods out of its hinges. Thus, in order to get rid of the shackles, it is enough to pull yourself up and climb out of the water chamber.
The Disappearance Of The Statue Of Liberty
The most popular magician of our time, David Copperfield, deprived the residents and visitors of new York of their national pride, and became famous all over the world.
David’s ingenuity can only be envied, although in the production of this large-scale trick, he did not have to invent anything.
So, we all know that the symbol of new York is placed on a small island, far from the city lights. And all the light sources are enclosed in a single system of lighting the Statue and the island itself. So what makes the Freedom of the United States” disappear ” is an elementary power outage for a few minutes at the moment when a white canvas rises in front of the audience.
This trick was invented in the XIX century by John Nevil Maskelyne, and in the XX century it was deservedly considered legendary. All the great magicians, including Harry Houdini and mark Wilson, tried to repeat and improve it.
But Jonathan and Charlotte Pendragon achieved perfection in performing the “Metamorphosis” trick, and they even became Guinness world records holders.
This focus is very beautiful, dynamic and spectacular. But the success of its performance depends on the skill of the illusionists and props with secrets, namely:
“we don’t see the bottom of the bag that Jonathan is in at first: it’s just not there;
– the chest, which is really locked, is equipped with a system of sliding the top panel, so that the husband and wife change places at the climax of the focus;
– the girl masterfully changes the swimsuit, namely, rips the upper one, under which there is another contrasting color.
True professional magicians try to avoid exposing their tricks, but they do not always succeed.
So, in 1997, a series of TV programs “Secrets of the great magicians” was published and it still exists today. The idea of this project is to expose various well-known tricks.
The host of the program Val Valentino says that he reveals the secrets of his colleagues in order for them to come up with new tricks and develop the art of illusion. But we can still assume that the main reason for his actions is the commercial component. But magicians, indeed, are forced to come up with something new, in order to surprise the audience again and again, hungry for spectacle.
